Stop the Brain Drain in Your Company
They are withholding ideas at work and not contributing because of fear.
We had an employee survey and the results are stellar, but the reality of the workplace is subpar to say the least.
These phrases are what customers share with me when there is a lack of engagement and innovation within their teams. Are you saying the same thing too?
A great way to assess highly engaged employees is to observe the ideas and solutions they share. Are they integrating into the work culture, taking ownership for various aspects under their influence, or are they holding back?
The truth is, highly engaged and motivated employees would rather leave their jobs than deliver subpar work. Their personal standards are too high. Instead, they look for ways to contribute, lead projects and initiatives, and/or blending their personal passion and interests into what they do.
One client of mine merged his passion for music into his work environment which landed him a role as Head of Music in his tech company.
Another client shared her passion for podcasting outside of work, and it was because of this passion that she was spared from a layoff and invited to produce the company’s podcast.
Yet, another client loved to DJ music parties. Her passion for DJing became a thing where she would end up DJing the company’s corporate events. Even when she left the company, they hired her to do the events because of the impression she made.
These are just a few examples of how employee-preneurs blend their passion outside and inside of work. I think this is a winning formula to increase fulfillment and satisfaction.
What do you think? What passions would you bring to work if you could? People aren’t speaking up.
But, let’s be honest. It is not always easy. It requires leaders and mentors with enough courage and innovation to foster these environments.
Innovation is one of the most important aspects of business today.
Innovative thinking will allow you to appreciate how other people think, act, and identify where their idea works best. This means that when someone has an idea for something new, there’s a good chance you will help them execute on their vision better than most folks do because you’ve already been exposed to so many different ways of thinking!
When you create an environment where everyone feels empowered and encouraged to contribute ideas, you create an environment where innovation can thrive.
Remember, innovation doesn’t just happen on its own; it requires active engagement from everyone involved in the process. And one way you can encourage active engagement is by creating opportunities for your employees to share their ideas with each other.
