Storytelling is a powerful tool for communicating your message. It can be used to sell products, create awareness, and build relationships.
Telling a story is hard. It’s something we all do, but it’s so difficult to master if you don’t have the right framework and know-how.
It’s about finding the right words to convey your message in a way that people can understand what you want them to know. We’re not talking about being flowery or overly poetic—we’re talking about being clear and concise so that your audience can connect with what you’re saying.
When we think about the story, we think about things like Ted Talks, Netflix, and podcasts, etc., we think about people who are unforgettable, people whose story has stood the test of time. They have a way of drawing us in, connecting to us, and anchoring us to the story. They tell their stories with passion and purpose and leave you feeling changed by their words—even if you don’t know exactly why you feel that way.
Do you know what makes a story compelling?
It’s not the plot, it’s not the characters—it’s the hero. The hero is supposed to be likeable. They’re supposed to be relatable. And they’re supposed to have something at stake in their adventure: whether that’s getting revenge against an enemy or finding out who they are and what they want out of life.
You’ve heard the term “hero’s journey” used to describe the plot of a story. But what does that mean? And how can you make sure your protagonist has a strong arc and a satisfying ending?
Who is the hero in your story? Every story needs a hero. The hero is the main character of a story, and he or she is the key to your story’s success. The hero needs to be the one who faces events and conflicts in the story, and they often stand out from everything else going on because they’re doing something extraordinary—something that makes them an inspiration to others. The hero is someone who is willing to do whatever it takes in order to reach their goals and they don’t let adversity stop them from achieving what they want.
If you want to master your storytelling, then you need to learn the Hero’s Journey Framework.
The hero’s journey is a legendary tale told in a variety of forms, from ancient myths to modern novels, but it always follows these basic steps:
1) The hero (or heroine) faces some kind of peril or challenge.
2) The hero overcomes this obstacle, often because they are helped by someone else (maybe a friend, neighbor, passersby, etc.)
3) They are rewarded for their triumph by gaining some kind of power or insight that helps them in the future.
4) The hero flees again or returns home—but with new knowledge or experience that helps them solve another problem.
This framework breaks down what makes a story great, and how to use it to ensure that your audience feels something as they listen to or read your content. You can use this framework to craft a story that will resonate with your audience, and help them understand the message you’re trying to get across.
That’s what storytelling is all about: helping people see themselves more clearly and understand what they can do to improve their lives.
So how do you tell your story? Start by thinking about the obstacles you have overcome and how you have been that hero in your own life. Think about who or what inspired you and made you want to be better than before. What did that version of you want out of life? What are some things you are struggling with right now? How can you help others achieve those same goals?
